Classroom News

Fluency Homework

The fluency homework that your child brings home is geared towards what they are currently working on throughout the week.  You may notice similar activities each week that are becoming more challenging as your child improves with particular skills.  Our second fluency homework sheet is being sent home on Monday.  I wanted to make sure that I clarify how our homework works each week.  Fluency practice is beneficial for students to work on a little (or all) each night.  The goal is for your child to become more accurate an do it with more speed each time.  You may choose to house the homework in your child's folder throughout the week, or you may keep it at home until it is sent back at the end of the week with any comments you may have!

Book Buddies

This week we worked with our book buddies to retell a story with the beginning, middle and end.  Students also learned about character traits and how to provide evidence for the main characters in the story.  They worked diligently with their second grade buddy and did a truly outstanding job!

Butterfly Release

After careful observation, our class released our first Painted Lady Butterflies! We all did a good job being respectful, while making sure our butterflies make it back safely into nature.

Star Student of the Week

As a school, we have a new Friday Morning Meeting routine. One student from a class will be chosen as a Star Student based upon our three core rules: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Ready to Learn. Our goal is to have a different student each week earn this special title!

This week our star student was: Karina

She earned a warm fuzzy for: Being respectful
When: She helped a student who was having a difficult time with a task.
